The new Airspace Architecture Study (AAS) states in the report:

“A successful transition to the proposed target architecture of a Single European Airspace System will only be possible through collaboration and commitment from all ATM stakeholders.”

A proposal for the future architecture of the European airspace (SESAR)

This architecture is expressing the necessity to build the Single European Airspace System (SES) in which all services ATM providers and users operate as if they were one organization.

Two major European ANSPs

CCS fits into this approach, with an international collaboration between two major European ANSPs: DSNA (France) and ENAV (Italy). These two projects leaders integrate in the service development two others, considered as customers: MATS (Malta) and Skyguide (Swiss), the latter being at the initiative of the CCS project.

Moreover, the project is pooling several industrial strengths, added to the expertise of the four ANSPs. Indeed, Thales and Leonardo are involved in Coflight development system. The political dimension is also an important side of the project. For instance one of the value of CCS is the environmental performance according to European Commission ambitious and SESAR program orientations.

Through CCS development each actors is providing an expected sustainable solution to anticipate the growing demand of European air traffic. As a result, they all bring essential innovations to ATM systems for the future, such as interoperability and resilience.

These forms of cooperation are encouraged, as they are an effective way to build the future digital ATM network.

As a reminder, the European Commission has commissioned SESAR to work on this SES build, including ATM cost reduction objective. CCS responds to this financial perspective and allows uniting forces. Indeed, CCS is pooling ATM community expertise to build the future system together and European Sky defragmentation.

In conclusion, CCS aims to modernize Europe’s airspace and delivers interoperable solutions answering to politic challenges (cost efficiency and environmental).  In order to meet these expectations, CCS puts innovation and collaboration at the heart of system development. This allows to improve new forms of industrial cooperation and partnership between ANSPs in the European context.
